Bronx, NY – With over 30 years of successful experience running entertainment venues, Manhattan businessman Gabriel Boter has partnered with veteran concert promoters, On the Rocks Entertainment to re-open the historic Paradise Theater in the Bronx. The landmark venue, described by many as “breathtaking”, marks its Grand Re-Opening event on Saturday October 24, 2009 featuring legendary R&B singer Charlie Wilson and Universal Republic singer/songwriter K’Jon.
In 2003, Mr. Boter began the challenging and costly renovations to the Lowe’s Paradise Theatre, the landmark movie house that opened in 1929 and had sat vacant since its closing in 1994. Two years and millions of dollars later, the newly refurbished Paradise Theater opened on October 29, 2005 as a concert venue unlike any other. In the following 14 months, the Paradise Theater played host to 17 successful shows, but due to a heart condition and a devastating cancer diagnosis, Mr. Boter had no choice but to give up the Theater he loved and soon after the doors closed once more.
Now, with his cancer in remission, Mr. Boter has regained control of the Paradise Theater and has partnered with veteran concert promoters and Bronx natives, On the Rocks Entertainment to manage the Theater and ensure its return to glory. “The Paradise is such a fantastic venue with so much potential for concerts, movie productions, stage plays, private events and so much more. I love everything about this place and I am so happy and excited to be able to come back to see my dreams for the Theater become a reality”, exclaimed Mr. Boter. Shelby Joyner, President of On the Rocks Entertainment said, “We are launching an amazing list of events and pro-social programs designed to galvanize and engage the community. We are dedicated to bringing new jobs to the community while keeping ticket prices affordable during these tough economic times. I have been in the Bronx my entire life and have listened to so many great stories from generations of people who loved coming to the Paradise Theatre. We want the Theater to once again be the heartbeat of the Bronx. We believe that bringing new life to this historic landmark will breathe new life into the Bronx community as a whole.”
The amazing list of events at the Paradise Theater kicks off with the Grand Re-Opening on Saturday October 24th with a performance by Grammy Award Winner, legendary R&B singer Charlie Wilson. Grammy nominees & winners Tamia, Kelly Price and Deborah Cox have come together to create The Queen Project to help empower women to raise their voices for change and provide a sense of unity for women of all ages, races and backgrounds. On Saturday, November 21st these talented ladies come to the Paradise Theatre with a concert and Women’s Forum, designed to help women exchange ideas on family, health and wellness, relationships, etc. On Saturday November 28th R&B legends Stephanie Mills and Freddie Jackson take the stage.

About the Paradise Theater:

The Loew’s Paradise Theatre opened on September 7, 1929, as a movie house and live performance venue, at a cost of $4 Million. One of the last “atmospheric” style cinemas, it was created by the designer John Eberson, and meant to transport Bronx residents into a Baroque Italian garden, adorned with marble pillars, statues, tapestries, a goldfish pool and a night sky with twinkling stars and moving clouds.
After the Great Depression, live acts were dropped from the program schedule and the Paradise became a regular first run movie theatre. Over the years, many features and fittings in the Paradise ‘disappeared’ and by the late 1960′s it was on the market for redevelopment, opening only for evening performances. The theatre was twinned in December 1973; in 1975 it was triplexed and in 1981 was divided into four screens, hiding practically all the original auditorium interior behind drop ceilings and panel walls. The Lowe’s Paradise Theatre closed in 1994.
The Paradise Theater is a New York City Registered Landmark building, for both the facade and the interior. Listed on 16th April 1997.
